Standing Up For Anderson 5

Serving on the Anderson Five School Board has always been about listening to the people I represent, asking difficult questions, and working with fellow board members to make decisions that put students, families, teachers, and taxpayers first.

Many of these efforts were accomplished alongside fellow board members Bill Thompson III, Troy Haguewood, and Tripp Dukes. School board service is a team effort, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with others who are willing to speak up and serve our community.

This is not about taking credit. As an elected official, I believe I have a responsibility to be transparent with the people who elected me and to share the issues I have stood for and the progress we have made.

Fiscal Responsibility &

Board Accountability

  • I opposed board-member compensation and have consistently supported responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

  • I helped bring attention to the $5.6 million spent on the downtown district office during my first campaign. Plans for a second building were later scrapped following public concern.

  • As a board, we later authorized approximately $388,000 to fill in the excavation that had already been completed for the proposed second building.

  • I have publicly supported selling the new downtown district office in response to requests from constituents.

  • I spoke out about yearly teacher bonuses that had also been given to School Board members under a former superintendent, despite board policy stating that board members received no compensation. Those bonuses are no longer given to board members.

  • I supported budgets that resulted in no tax increase in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

  • I helped raise concerns about inappropriate sex-education material, which was later removed from the program.

  • Following an anonymous tip, I brought attention to inappropriate library books that were on display at Robert Anderson Middle School. The books were removed from display.

  • I stood up for Southwood School of the Arts remaining an audition-based magnet school.

  • I have raised concerns, along with other board members, about excessive Chromebook use and the need for a healthy balance between technology and traditional instruction.

  • I supported providing Robert Anderson Middle School with additional resources, including more assistant principals and behavior interventionists.

  • I supported deploying weapons-detection systems in all middle schools.

Parents, Transparency & Community Voice

Supporting Teachers, Schools & Student Safety

  • I supported and voted for the principal salary study designed to better align Anderson Five administrator salaries with surrounding districts.

  • I supported additional parking-lot lighting and security-fence proposals at McCants Middle School.

  • I promoted the idea of purchasing McCants Bowl for district use.

  • I have supported stronger resources for teachers and administrators so they can maintain safe, orderly classrooms and focus on student achievement.

  • I publicly opposed vaccine incentive programs implemented under former Superintendent Wilson, including reported incentive payments to students, teachers, and School Board members.

  • I consistently questioned policies and spending decisions when I believed taxpayers, parents, employees, or students deserved more transparency.

  • I have worked to bring constituent concerns directly to the board and to make sure those concerns are part of the public conversation.

My responsibility is not to simply hold a seat. It is to serve the people who placed me there.
